Living God in Rome

I’ve just arrived in Rome with a group of Friends of the Cathedral. We’re just here until Sunday – part pilgrimage, part holiday. But that is the joy of any pilgrimage, that it supplies a series of ‘holy days’.

The wonderful coincidence is that Archbishop Vincent Nichols is to receive his cardinals cap this weekend. A great moment for the Roman Catholic community and all of us. I have been impressed at his persistence in the last few days in speaking the truth about benefit changes. We need a bit more of speaking truth to power!

Anyway, enough of that. Now to settle down and begin to enjoy the Eternal City with friends.
